Words such as sleep, I am here, or I will be sad for you can sound protective. In this film they may also place another person where leaving becomes harder.

Care can become procedure

When one person keeps deciding another person's state, feeling, or next move, care begins to resemble control. The voice is soft, but the rule has not disappeared.

The question is whether space opens

A caring sentence matters less by tone than by effect. Does it leave room for reply, refusal, movement, and delay? Or does it close the room around the person hearing it?
